About Us

Nelson East Medical has been providing medical care to Nelson families since 1988.

We are focused on providing care to young and old, and work closely with patients to achieve the best outcome for them.

We are an accredited teaching practice with the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. We will often have a registrar (a Dr who is training towards becoming a GP) on placement with us. They are fully supervised by our GPs.

We are fully Cornerstone accredited with the RNZCGP, our regulatory body.

We are a member of Nelson Bays Primary Health Organisation.

Dr Alice Faulkner

I’m taking new patients currently.

I’m from the UK originally, I trained in London and moved to NZ shortly after qualifying. I trained as a GP in 2008, having worked in Christchurch and Nelson hospitals for several years.

I joined Nelson East Medical in 2018. I love working in a smaller practice as it means that I really feel that I know my patients and their families. I am interested in all areas of general practice and do some minor surgery procedures.

I am proud to say I became a NZ citizen in 2016 and truly call this country home. I love our sunny Nelson and outside of work I am busy with my husband and family of 3 kids with sailing, mountainbiking, hockey, skiing, fishing and anything the outdoors can throw at us!

Dr Steve McGlone

I grew up and trained as a doctor in Perth, Western Australia. I moved to NZ to live in 1987 and undertook postgraduate training in Obstetrics, and also in General Practice.

I had my own semi-rural practice in Oamaru for 10 years, where I practised intrapartum obstetrics (delivering babies) before moving to Nelson to live in 2000. I hold my Fellowship of the Royal College of General Practitioners and also have a postgraduate diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine.

I have a particular interest in musculoskeletal, sports and rehabilitation medicine and General Practice teaching. I do a variety of minor surgery procedures.

I’m a passionate outdoorsman and musician in my spare time, enjoying all the great opportunities Nelson has to offer.

Dr Rashik Patel

I’m taking new patients currently.

I originally hail from Leicester, UK, and came to NZ in 2020 with my wife, 3 dogs and beloved Land Rover. I joined the team at Nelson East in September 2021.

I studied medicine at Newcastle University, and my special interests include mental health and cardiology. I believe that the resolution of many physical ailments can be assisted by paying attention to mental health routines.

When I’m not working or spending time with the family, I like to get my heart rate up by playing football, a spot of boxing at the gym, or tramping in the great outdoors.

Dr Jocy Wood

I’m taking new patients currently.

I am an experienced General Practitioner with special interests in Women’s Health and Mental Health.

I am involved in teaching registrars in the General Practice training programme. I am also a senior examiner for the Royal NZ College of General Practitioners.

Outside of work I am a keen tramper, traveller and mother.
